The following is a slightly edited extract from Hanzi Freinacht’s book ‘Nordic Ideology: A Metamodern Guide to Politics, Book Two’. This is the second book in a series on metamodern thought, a work of popular philosophy that investigates the nature of psychological development and its political implications. In this post you will be introduced to the idea of gender antagonism and the painful paradoxes of love. This is a central part of Gemeinschaft politics, one of the six new forms of politics proposed in Nordic Ideology. There’s just no limit to how central gender relations are to society. It’s just that important. I mean, if you miss this perspective, and gender relations get screwed up, you seriously screw over every other aspect of society. Inter-culturalism (or multiculturalism as it is commonly referred to) comes in different forms. You have multicultural state ideologies, which emphasize the importance of inclusion and diversity, claiming that the more diverse cultures you have, the better. You have corresponding anti-discrimination and pro-diversity policies in companies. You have “inter-faith dialogue” movements, which seek to find common ground and mutual respect among believers of different faiths. You have “affirmative action” programs, international children’s summer camps, the peace movement, political correctness seeking to ban whatever words have become racist slurs—and so forth. Among theorists you find such thinkers as the philosopher Charles Taylor,

On Tuesday, November 24, Robert Doar, head of the American Enterprise Institute think tank, welcomed Whole Foods CEO and ICE Director John Mackey for a conversation on our new book: Conscious Leadership: Elevating Humanity Through Business (Penguin 2020), coauthored by Mackey, McIntosh, and Phipps. As described in AEI’s summary of the talk: “Mr. Doar and Mr. Mackey analyzed three prevailing mindsets — traditionalist, modernist, and progressive — and how they manifest in society and business.” Beginning in the YouTube video at 22:15 minutes, John does an excellent job summarizing post-progressive cultural intelligence. And Robert Doar expresses interest in learning more

Gemeinschaft Politics is closely linked to Democratization Politics. Democracy implies that there is a “demos”, a people that governs society. But for there to be a people, there must be a certain something to bind citizens together; a feeling of communal togetherness, a sense of fellowship, a reason why we should belong to the same society to begin with. In short, if you don’t have Gemeinschaft, you’ll struggle to get a Gesellschaft—i.e. to get sound and sustainable institutions. The quality of ordinary citizens’ relations with one another can make or break a country. Societies characterized by a strong sense of community, high levels of trust and mutual respect and understanding tend to be richer, less corrupt and more peaceful. Countries with weak communal bonds, widespread distrust and little sense of belonging often fall apart, sometimes violently. That’s why Gemeinschaft matters. Recently, I fulfilled a long-held dream and launched a podcast, Thinking Ahead. The weekly show explores the movements, trends, people, and ideas that are shaping our evolving world–a description that’s broad enough to encompass my many eclectic interests. As an unapologetic generalist, I love having the opportunity to interview a diverse range of thinkers, from business and politics to science and technology to consciousness and spirituality. I also love having a new justification for my insatiable book-buying habit. The podcast is also a critical forum for advancing and exploring the ideas and political approaches that this Institute was founded to
