@jaltucher @jay_yow07 The commentary sounds odd to me. White needs to play Rf2. If he plays Kh1, Black takes on d2 he threatens mate on g2. The broader positional points about the restricted knight and passed a pawn are fine, but they risk sounding obtuse if the basic tactics aren’t acknowledged.

@DavidMair4 Hi David. Thanks. I’ll try to as time allows. There might be scope for a future Perspectiva event on values. Cc: @michaelbready

This next phase was harder. It’s difficult for beginners not to play the checks they see. Someone did get Kb1 intending Rc1 but was stumped when Black plays Kd8 and there’s no progress. It was my son Vishnu who then saw Ka1 intending Rb1, and I admit I felt proud of him. 👏

Once the rook gets to b1 it’s clear that only giving away a rook prevents Rb1-b8 mate. To solve, you need to seek out a Ra1 manoeuvre to the 8th rank and see Black can’t move a rook off back rank unless it’s a check. 4 *delightful* moves follow from these premises. 🔥 #chess

@AdamRamsay Yes, but there are ifs/buts/maybes. I was wholehearted for Yes in 2014 while ambivalent about Salmond & SNP. There’s also the matter of timescales. If the aim is indy within 2-5 years, it’s a risky progressive push, if 6-8 years the strategy could/should be post-progressive…

1.0-0-0! This took a while, but we came to realise that our own checks were getting nowhere, that Rb1-b8 was right in principle but we had to stop Black’s checks. A young girl who rarely speaks saw castling was possible and received a house point. She seemed happy. 😀

Thanks to @EliteMindSports I had ready-made material to teach at primary school chess club this morning. It’s the perfect puzzle for a class of mostly beginners and a few 🌟 🌟 White to play and win.
