Do you know why psychological safety is so important? You might be working in an office, but if you don’t feel safe, your body can react as if you are in the jungle being hunted by a tiger.

๐Ÿงจ If there is any perceived danger, it will trigger the stress hormones and put your body in “fight or flight” mode. This is precisely the opposite of what you need for effective team collaborations. So how do we help people feel safe?

๐Ÿ’š Humans are social animals. We feel safe when we have strong relationships. This is what “belonging cues” are for. Belonging cues are subtle signs that tell you that you are safe here. If you receive several belonging cues, your amygdala will switch from searching for danger, to paying attention to the relationships and looking for ways to maintain them.

๐Ÿ“Œ Belonging cues are very specific, concrete actions you can take to help your colleagues feel safe.
