In this stunning 2.5 hour discussion, Ken Wilber offers his own views around healthy and unhealthy forms of social justice, praising the healthy and legitimate efforts to enact social justice over the generations while noting how much of today’s broken discourse around social justice is helping to perpetuate multiple forms of injustice.

“I thought we could also just briefly check in on my own specific take on (social justice). And we’ve talked a lot about several of these pieces in previous shows, but we’ve never really sort of brought them together, so we can focus on essentially one topic and see how all these ideas actually do fit together in what has in essence become sort of the central leading edge topic, certainly in universities, and academia. I mean there’s this sort of unconscious bias testing which almost every major corporation in the Western world now gives it’s employees. Even though two out of three of the people that invented that test say it won’t work that way and is being used wrong, millions of people have been given it because it fits that new dogma of broken social justice, which is being generated by a broken green.

So we have to tease that apart from what any sort of actual healthy social justice can be, and how it’s going to fit with the other stages of development in a more integral fashion. And then last of all, what would an actual integral social justice — or more broadly, just integral justice that includes justice and social justice — what would that look like, and what do we need to do in order to have that kind of approach? So that’s some of the basic topics that we’ll be discussing, along with things like intersectionality, which has become a new fundamentalist religion with all the problems of fundamentalism. We’ll go into that as well.” —Ken Wilber

“So that’s the battle right now. And the battle should be truth, justice, social justice, and all three of these should be interwoven in ways that are mutually supportive. And the only way we’re going to get social justice to be healthy again is by having it actually consider all of the legitimate factors that contribute to variations in different individual and different group outcomes.

There’s an entire class of people now dedicated to keeping as much tension and division between the tribes as possible. And that’s one of the main problems. And it’s really a problem because it makes it very hard for integral people to include a healthy social justice, even though we can see a lot of examples where it’s important.” —Ken Wilber
