πŸ™Œ Raise a hand if you are the one who does most of the care work in your team! βœ‹

Did you know that ⭐ care⭐ is the gravity that holds a group together?
But in most groups, the work of caring for people is not acknowledged as work. It’s invisible, there’s no system for allocating it.

What is care labour?
πŸ”Ί practical stuff of hospitality (like preparing for a gathering and cleaning up after)
πŸ”Ί emotional work (like noticing that someone is not having a good time and checking in with them)
πŸ’š Care is all those subtle gestures of consideration for the needs and feelings of other people.

If you don’t have a formal system for allocating the care labour, the person who is the most sensitive to the needs of others, does most of the work of caring for everybody. Without being acknowledged, supported, or paid.

In a traditional hierarchy a lot of this work is done by HR or Managers, but in self-organising teams it needs to be distributed around in a different way.

How do we do it?
βœ… First of all it needs to be acknowledged, and listed as tasks.
βœ… Then we need to find a way to distribute it fairly.

How do you distribute the care tasks in your group? Let us know in the comment below πŸ‘‡
