🔬As we grow older, the efficiency of our body’s process for eliminating damaged cells diminishes, resulting in the accumulation of senescent cells, often referred to as “zombie” cells. These dysfunctional cells cease to multiply but linger without perishing.

Additionally, senescent cells release detrimental molecules that can harm neighboring healthy cells. This leads to a cascade of issues including tissue and organ dysfunction, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, decreased sirtuin levels, shortened telomeres, and mitochondrial damage.

It’s no surprise that cellular senescence is one of the 12 Hallmarks of Aging.
