Unlike conventional study skills—which are designed primarily to help students learn factual information well enough to pass academic tests—VCoLs are designed to build the knowledge, deep understanding, and skills we need to navigate the complexity and ambiguity of our lives. Learning optimally is about learning the way the brain likes to learn—through reflective embodied practice.

Optimal learning involves the application of knowledge in real-world, emotion-laden contexts. It effectively integrates new information into existing neural networks—building understanding and skill, and providing a robust foundation for future learning and development. This week, a client asked me to provide a succinct explanation of “optimal learning.” Here goes!
