This morning I am sitting with the emotions of what it will truly take to regenerate entire continents…Systems of globalized extraction are so pervasive and destructive. They will need to collapse as part of the process. This implies a great deal of suffering and loss that is far from over.Yet in the same process there will be a growing wave of humanity seeking harmony with the Earth. Communities rallying together in service to life. How can the turbulence of such a blend be survived?I sit with this deeply because I know so much about what is happening at the planetary scale.

It is really something to experience a tapestry of landscapes by the way a river runs through them… bringing water-giving life everywhere it flows. We are on a sacred journey following the Colorado River from its birthplace high in the Rocky Mountains all the way to where it no longer runs into the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. As we travel from place to place, we feel the great weaving of landscapes made possible by this incredible tapestry of living communities. In this blog post, I want to share some of the magnificence that can be found when two great rivers meet each

Yesterday we visited the birthplace of the mighty Colorado River… high up in Rocky Mountain National Park where it begins at La Poudre Pass. We came here with a sacred mission: To feel the life of an entire river from headwaters to the sea and awaken the dream that the entire basin is regenerated in the future. It was incredible to feel the power of the Colorado so close to its origin. We walked onto the Colorado River Trail which begins 7.6 miles from the pass. Even at such close proximity to its beginnings, we could feel the water gushing and churning

Bell Hooks (1952-2021): The Cultural Politics of Love“My students tell me, we don’t want to love! We’re tired of being loving! And I say to them, if you’re tired of being loving, then you haven’t really been loving, because when you are loving you have more strength.”– bell hooks. It might seem strange for a regular white guy like me to want to mark the passing of bell hooks, a black feminist icon. It might even seem inappropriate, because ostensibly her work is not about me, or my kind of experience. Yet I do feel moved to share why people like me — and here

I have studied, taught and practiced meditation for over 30 years. I consider meditation, arising in its endless variations, to be indispensable to spiritual development and I sing its praises regularly on this podcast. I have also occasionally spoken about my experience years ago when an intense period of mindfulness meditation triggered a multi-year siege of anxiety which began to heal only when, after much suffering, I cast off the instructions of my teachers to “just keep meditating” and got up from the cushion and fled a retreat. A few weeks ago I ran across an essay written by meditation

Prophetic teacher, psychologist, author and poet, Bayo Akomolafe joins Terry to explore the “cracks in the world” that are opening to swallow everything we’ve been taught to believe and sense into the voices, adventures, and new worlds that are poised to emerge.  With vivid original imagination and a ruthless deep kindness, Bayo names the limits […]
