How to become incorrigible It is very hard for evil to take hold of the unconsenting soul.– Ursula K. Le Guin Earlier this year, Bill Gates published a book about how to stop the next pandemic. Basically, he urged that we do the same thing we did this time, only more thoroughly and more broadly. […] The post Pandemania, Part 4 first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

I want to share with you this deep and far-ranging conversation I had with Indy Rishi Singh for a podcast called Political Hope. (Spotify, Apple). We could sure use some hope right now, at a time of vicious partisanship, entrenched power structures, intensifying paralysis, and political deadlock. What is politics, but the way human groups make […] The post Political Hope first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

On lies and systemic deceit The end justifies the means. But what if there never is an end? All we have is means.— Ursula K. Le Guin (For audio version of this essay, click here.) I’m getting a lot of intense critical feedback on my last post, from every direction. I am simultaneously— (1) Too […] The post Pandemania, Part 3 first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

More on abuse, division, and the promise of coherency I am impressed with the diversity and nuance of the comments on Part 1 of the Pandemania series. Super impressed. These are issues that provoke intense emotions, yet people were able to describe their experiences, feelings, and opinions with very little blame, self-righteousness, or dehumanizing labels. […] The post Pandemania, Part 2 first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

Those who build walls are their own prisoners.– Ursula K. Le Guin Oh my goodness. The social illness that the pandemic launched into its active phase is far from over. That is obvious from the comments on my last post, where I asked for suggestions on how to approach the Covid topic from a post-pandemic […] The post Pandemania, Part 1 first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

Note to readers: I considered dividing this essay into seven parts, because it is long and in some places pretty dense. So set aside some time to drop in with it. It weighs in at over 8,000 words — just what they recommend to maximize virality. Or maybe that was 800 words. An audio version […] The post Transhumanism and the Metaverse first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

Or maybe I will A couple years ago, in the heat of the Covid controversies, I wrote an article titled The Conspiracy Myth. I tried neither to debunk nor prove the conspiracy narrative around the origins of Covid. My thesis was that, like all myths, this narrative is a vehicle for hidden truths, psychological and social. John Perkins once told me a story of bringing a group to have an audience with the Dalai Lama. A woman asked him, “Is it important to pray for peace?” The Dalai Lama said, “Yes, praying for peace is very good, but if that is all you do you are wasting your time.” What he […] The post The Field of Peace first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

I’m taking time off writing a long and frustrating essay to review a film I saw last night, Netflix’ popular Don’t Look Up. Spoiler alert! Maybe best to watch it first. In the film, a planet-killing comet is headed toward earth. The world responds mostly with disbelief. Humanity lowers its eyes onto its cellphone screens, memes, […] The post Comet of Deliverance first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.

A member of an online community I co-host described a Match.com exchange in which her prospective date, upon finding she was only partially vaccinated, wished her death—the sooner the better. It was one of many similar, she said. Now it is probably a good idea to eliminate from the dating pool people who disagree with […] The post Divide, Conquer; Unite, Heal first appeared on Charles Eisenstein.
