The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 158 Enough is enough. While there is much need for purposed action around the world to set our countries to right, we are rapidly realizing we’ve had enough radicalism. But radicalism, often in answer to radicalism, is still rapidly on the rise. These facts raise an important question: What is the road away from radicalization? How do we deradicalize generations? An answer can be found in the religious spirit cultivated by the Christian and Jewish faiths, whether one is religious or not. Each new disaster brings my own healing process to a deeper level… as I grieve all that is dying and place my heart in the future that comes after collapse.Yesterday I felt a new sensation as I watched photos flow across my information feeds about the destruction in Los Angeles, California. There was a sense of relief that the global system is moving into a new stage of its dying process. This doesn’t mean I am glad for the destruction. It is a more subtle feeling. After watching hurricanes hit New York, wildfires burn the entire continent of Australia, floods wipe out

It is the dead rivers that stir something deep within me…This one is the Paramera and it drains into the Barichara River. When I walk to these places, I am pondering how the locals say that water continuously ran in this drainage until about 25–30 years ago.I add to this my knowledge that 95% of the native forest has been cut down in the last eighty years. The entire region is in the process of becoming a desert. It is a human-caused calamity. My imagination stirs at the thoughts of bringing back the forest, connecting the biological corridors, and weaving of human activities

I want to talk about a topic that quietly resides in the shadows — yet has significant consequences in the world as time goes by. As a visible leader in the regenerative movement, I have participated in and observed various conflicts throughout the last several years.Rifts arose in the social fabric that remained invisible to people who care about regenerating landscapes and communities all over the world. Hidden divisions remained in the field of relationships causing harm that no one could see. Earlier this year, I was part of a visible rift that took place on Twitter between myself and members of the

It is time to activate a planetary network of bioregional learning centers… engaging at least 100 in the next year.Earth Regenerators turns three on December 29th… and we have come such a long way. I just re-read Birthing the Design School Next Year (in 2021) that was written more than two years ago. It felt like looking into a crystal ball and seeing that we actually did what we set out to do.Here is what we set out to do in the following year:If you go on to read Earth Regenerators in 2022, you will see that we were successful on all

Ten Lessons from Covid for Stepping into the Decade of TransformationIn 1989, a few months before the Berlin Wall would collapse, I was co-leading an international student group in a program called Peace Studies Around the World that took us to East and West Berlin. In discussions with some of the leaders of the civil rights and opposition movements in East Berlin, I witnessed with my own eyes how even the very people who were on the frontlines of forces that eventually would bring down the Berlin Wall — effectively ending the cold war system — had no idea what a far-reaching impact their
