“I wish we had more time to spare, I wish people would see how much we care. I know that we are failing you, but we’re at breaking point. We’re people too.” On #InternationalNursingDay2022, here’s a reminder of the web of empathy needed in our healthcare systems every day. This short film is based on a poem by nurse Miriam Barber, who also stars as herself. We’re people too.” On #InternationalNursingDay2022, watch this short film based on a poem by nurse Miriam Barber, and adapted to film in collaboration with writer and director James Soldan. Miriam initially wrote the poem after a particularly challenging shift on an understaffed and overstretched NHS ward, where she was trying to provide care for a patient whose illness made him totally unable to communicate his needs. Wanting to share the realities

A lot of interesting bits in this article, but one sentence inparticular has really been rattling around the brain this week: ~ ~ “How do we navigate empathy when the structures meant to ‘care’ for us are breaking or nonexistent?” ~ ~‘If I followed me, I would mute myself’: confessions of a former pandemic shamerwww.theguardian.comI yearned for the partiers, the people posting as the virus raged, to be publicly shamed. But everyone is processing this differently, and I can’t change that

In 1981 England when Black communities rose up in confrontation with the police against a backdrop of racism, lack of employment, and economic recession, the government’s official response was an inquiry and report by Lord Scarman. The enquiry spoke to various people connected to the uprisings – but it was clear that Black voices were very absent, or dismissed. As such, the final report claimed that “institutional racism” simply did not exist, and there should be additional “hard” and “soft” policing in affected areas to prevent further “serious disorder”. We live today with the legacy of that failure to listen.

Brussels! From 24 March #AMileinMyShoes will be at Villa Empain – Fondation Boghossian as part of their #PortraitOfALady exhibition. The show is looking at representations of women from pre-historic times to today, through the foundation’s interest in dialogues between Eastern and Western cultures. And look – quite frankly the building is ridiculous. There is a pool. And a lot of marble. Our shelves of shoes will be next to works by Matisse and Cindy Sherman and Picasso. It’s all a bit ridiculous and we’re really looking forward to it. Free entry on first Wednesdays of the month, late nights with
