Art makes us think in novel ways, leading us to consider new approaches and possibilities. It induces states of mind that are often strange and uncomfortable. Rather than putting us to sleep, art wakes us up and invites us to experience something about being human that is in danger of being forgotten. The missing ingredient can’t be directly stated, immediately observed, or processed by algorithm, but it’s there — in the moment before it is named or depicted or resolved. It’s alive, it’s paradoxical, and it’s the exclusive province of Team Human. https://link.medium.com/cEMnE2TM6bbIf a TV Show Has a Spoiler, Chances

Playing for Team Human today, investigative journalist and author of “The Next Great Migration: The Beauty and Terror of Life on the Move,” Sonia Shah. Shah challenges conventional assumptions about migration and reveals how human movement is central to being human. Further, she looks ahead to how climate change will force the next great human migration, and how we can all view each other not as strangers, but as fellow humans. In his monologue, Rushkoff connects the plight of billionaire technologists imagining apocalyptic scenarios and building bunkers with the migration patterns of the Israelites in Torah. “We’ll always be welcoming

With local businesses going under and stocks tanking anyway, why not invest what’s left of our savings into the restaurants, bookstores, and barbershops we frequent, ourselves? We can apply rolling loans to getting one another out of debt. The Rolling Jubilee, conceived by members of Occupy Wall Street, has already bought and abolished over $34 million of student and medical debt, for just pennies on the dollar. Instead of cutting jobs from our companies or competing for scarce jobs, how about turning them into cooperatives and earning equity through labor? Or creating a local favor bank or mutual aid fund

You know that moment when a dog sees something he doesn’t quite understand? When he tilts his head a little bit to one side, as if viewing the perplexing phenomenon from another angle will help? That state of confusion, that huh?, may be a problem for the dog, but it’s awfully cute to us. That’s because for humans, a state of momentary confusion offers not just frustration but an opening. Team Human has the ability to tolerate and even embrace ambiguity. The stuff that makes our thinking and behavior messy, confusing, or anomalous is both our greatest strength and our

Many of us don’t like who we have become in this pandemic but feel little freedom to choose otherwise. Officially, we may be wearing our masks to protect others, but it sure does feel appropriate to hide our faces when we’re engaging in so many self-interested, survivalist activities in the light of day — leveraging whatever privilege we may enjoy to stock and equip our homes so they can serve as makeshift bunkers, workplaces, private schools, and hermetically sealed entertainment centers. https://onezero.medium.com/the-privileged-have-entered-their-escape-pods-4706b4893af7The Privileged Have Entered Their Escape Podsonezero.medium.comTechnology gave us the dream of a cocooned future. Now we’re living it.
