The Cynefin Co Health Programme:

Our work with the Royal College of Nursing focuses on nurses’ experiences in delivering care and treatment across various settings during the #pandemic. At the time of the report, 743 stories from nurses were collected using #SenseMaker.

In September 2020, a #workshop was held to invite a cross section of #nurses to interpret the patterns and shape recommendations for action. Major themes that emerged from that workshop included the impact of rapid change, both through external conditions and through nurses’ own situations, for example through redeployment. Nurses’ capacity for adaptation was emphasised, alongside the need for reflection and proactive support going forwards.

#Leadership communication and connection, especially in terms of information transmission, were also discussed as major themes. Eight recommendations were then identified. The report highlights that it provides just one snapshot of the richness of the data available: elevating the #voices of frontline workers and giving senior decision-makers an opportunity to interact directly with unmediated #stories.

The work is ongoing, and we are now supporting RCN across the whole of the UK to amplify the voices of the nurses they serve through contextualised insight-to-action.
