Hi everybody. I’m posting here today to announce a new and very different kind of invitation, in trust that you might feel moved to join me in a more personal, intimate and, at times, challenging wisdom inquiry than is typically offered. It’s vulnerable territory, for me, and all of us.
As you probably already know, I continue to navigate a very rare, aggressive, stage IV “inoperable and incurable” cancer — and while it is certainly life-threatening, my journey is even more emphatically life-brightening. With each passing day, I feel not just challenged (which I certainly am!) but also instructed, refined and inspired by how this unexpected ordeal of pain, indignity, discomfort, and loss is mysteriously outshined by the luminous and Divinely generous nature of each moment, each breath and every happening. This process continues to press me deeper into profound new questions and understandings, and at this point I have something of real value I want to share with you.
No matter how much time you personally have left, you won’t live forever. Given the condition of our world-in-crisis, we must face death in order to be fully and authentically alive here and now.
In this new offering, “Brightening Every Darkness: Collective and Personal Mortality amidst this Crisis,” I will share what I’m learning and how I’m changing as I travel the edges of my confrontation with death and dying, and its profound teachings for all of us facing our collective predicament. Our civilizational “meta-crisis” is a collective life-and-death challenge and an ordeal we can only adequately face together — and by gathering as practitioners amidst realities that feel too horrible to fully face. There, I have been discovering something new and learning (always more and more fully) to brighten everything I touch.
