I suspect that sites visited regularly (Facebook, Moz) rather than sites that rely on single visit income (ecommerce) could get away with slower page loads as users don't mind waiting. I realize this study is on speed vs ranking not speed vs site success, but just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.
